Music Tech Fest (musictechfest.net) is the global festival of music ideas. At #MTFScandi in May 2015, electronic producers and musicians were given 24 hours, some sounds contributed by artists and musicians from around the world, (including Phonat, Froogle, Portrait, Tom McNally and Sound Shaman), and the Toontrack EZdrummer 2 software - and were challenged to come up with an entirely new piece of music.

The Trackathon winners come from Boston, London and Tel Aviv, and their responses to the challenge are diverse and unique. These three songs were their winning entries, as selected by our LA judging panel: Phonat (from Skrillex's OWSLA label), Pascal Guyon (Leona Lewis's co-writer and producer), and Vince Lynch (Synkio cofounder - and Richard Branson’s former Creative Director). The judges then teamed up to work with and mentor the winners, and their songs were developed further for public release on this EP.

The project was coordinated by Rania Kim (aka Portrait: www.portraitofficial.com ), who collaborated with Phonat at Music Tech Fest to raise awareness of the issue of depression among solo creative workers like bedroom producers - and to create a vehicle to make a difference.

Depression is incredibly common amongst bedroom producers, electronic musicians and DJs. It can be a very isolating endeavour - and so the aim of the #MTFTrackathon EP project is to raise awareness, encourage collaboration, create new opportunities - and to contribute to the Foundation for Excellence in Mental Health Care, an international community foundation that works with researchers, health professionals and those affected by depression to improve mental healthcare and recovery.

In collaboration with the Foundation for Excellence in Mental Health Care (www.mentalhealthexcellence.org), the EP is being released to raise money to support research and recovery-focused programs. Your purchase and donation is hugely appreciated.

"I'm so grateful to be able to do something meaningful like this. This competition was such a unique way of bringing people together, globally. After a lot of research, we decided to have all proceeds of this EP go towards the charity that we feel has the most innovative and progressive approach to mental health. We should look after our minds - it's where everything starts." - Rania Kim
